Call for Presentations

To meet the always increasing demands for better and faster software produced by better and faster developers, practicing software engineers continually innovate and streamline the processes and tools that they use. This track will feature reviewed presentations by innovative software engineering practitioners. We look for presentations on the critical challenges industry faces in automated software engineering, innovative solutions built to address such challenges, and learning from using automated software engineering at scale. The aim of the track is to promote a dialogue between those at the forefront of the best of software engineering practice and researchers focusing on changing the direction of software engineering.

This track will solicit talk proposals that present practitioner-oriented topics and are relevant and interesting to both industrial and academic attendees. The proposals should include the talk title, the name and affiliation of each presenter, and a short abstract (150 words). In addition, the proposals should include (i) a “talk description” that describes what the talk will be about, highlighting its key points and the reason why it is interesting to ASE attendees; and (ii) a slide deck of the talk considering the talk duration to be no more than 20 minutes long. The submission may optionally include supporting materials such as white papers and videos. The proposals will then be reviewed, and the committee will make the final accept/reject decisions. While we encourage practitioners to submit in this track, please keep in mind that the submissions should focus on automation, related tools, and practical challenges in software engineering and not appear as marketing or publicity pitch for tools or products.

In addition to the Industry Showcase, we encourage practitioners to submit Experience Reports to the Main Technical track and Tool Demonstration.

Each accepted talk will be allowed two pages for an “extended abstract” in the ASE 2019 Proceedings.

Submissions

Submissions should follow the ASE 2019 formatting and submission instructions (IEEE format) and should be submitted electronically through HotCRP.

Evaluation

All submissions will be reviewed by members of the ASE Industry Showcase Committee. Submissions must not have been previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere. Submissions will be evaluated based on practicality to industry, originality, significance of contribution, applicability, quality of presentation, and discussion to related work.
