Travel Information To summary

The ASE2000 Conference will take place in Grenoble, in the Rhône-Alpes region, in the east of France, near the Alps and Swiss.

Getting to Grenoble

These two general documents describe the location of Grenoble:

From Lyon airport

The easiest way to come to Grenoble is to fly to Lyon Satolas (LYS) airport.
Attention. From July 29 of 2000, this airport is renamed Lyon-Saint Exupery. Its international IATA code is still LYS.

For people coming from the USA, Air France (international websites by clicking top left of this page on the "Air France websites around the world" link), proposes a flight from the New York Kennedy (JFK) airport to Lyon Satolas (LYS) airport via its partner Delta Air Lines.

This flight schedules are the follows:
Route Flight number Schedule
JFK to LYS AF021 5:40 PM - 7:25 AM
LYS to JFK AF012 10:00 AM - 12:45 PM

Note that you should book your tickets long beforehand, since these flights are in great demand. The telephone of Air France is 1 800 237 2747 or see their website otherwise.

Then, the most convenient way to come to Grenoble is to use the shuttle to the Grenoble coach station (this station is just next to the railway station) called the "Satobus". You can find schedules and prices on this page of the Lyon Satolas (LYS) airport website.

The Lyon airport also has a TGV (Very High Speed french train) railway station, but only 3 trains are scheduled daily beetween the airport and Grenoble:

Route Schedules
From To
LYS TGV Grenoble 4:32 PM - 5:38 PM
Grenoble LYS TGV 10:32 AM - 11:41 AM
2:29 PM - 3:37 PM

The price of the ticket is approximatively $22 and tickets can be booked online from the SNCF (french national railway company) website or its phone booking service.

From Paris airport

You can also land in the Roissy Charles De Gaulle (CDG) aiport, in the north-east of Paris. Once there, you then have several possibilities. This plan will help you to find your way.
  1. You can take a TGV train from the air terminal 2 which will lead you to Grenoble, either directly, or connecting at the Lyon Part Dieu railway station.
  2. You can take the "bus Air France" to the Paris Gare de Lyon railway station and then go to Grenoble by TGV.
  3. You can also take a RER train to the Paris Gare de Lyon railway station: use the B line to the Paris Gare du Nord stop, then connect to the D line to the Paris Gare de Lyon stop. For further details, see the RATP website.
The total fare should be about $70. To book your train ticket, see details above about online or phone book through the SNCF.

From Geneva (Switzerland) airport

You can also consider to come from the Swiss Geneva International (GVA) airport.
No regular shuttle to Grenoble exists, you have to take a train or preferably rent a car.

From Grenoble airport (not recommanded)

The nearest airport from Grenoble is the Grenoble Saint-Geoirs (GNB) airport. There is a shuttle to the Grenoble railway station after each flight. The price is approximatively 11$ a single ticket and 17$ a return ticket and for detailed schedules see the GNB airport.

Travelling in Grenoble and the Campus

The conference will take place in the Grenoble Campus, which is located in the Saint Martin d'Hères town (website in french), in the south-east suburbs of Grenoble. You can go from the Grenoble town centre to the Campus:

  1. by tram; use the B line to the "Universités" terminus.
  2. or by car; follow the "Domaine Universitaire" indication on signposts,
You can find more information on the Grenoble transports on this Grenoble Transports web page. There's also an unofficial website of the TAG, Grenoble bus and tram transports (website in french).

The exact location of the conference is the new UFR IMA building, that you can find using this map.
